Episode 133: Nature Walk Immersion
This week’s Charlotte Mason podcast is a recorded nature walk with Nicole Williams and seven-year-old Henry, Liz’s grandson. Tag along and listen as they explore Henry’s backyard on a cold March afternoon.
I found your podcast this morning. This episode was such a beautiful way to start my day! It was the perfect length to enjoy alone on the front porch before launching into my day with the kiddos.
I particularly loved the example shown of how simple, peaceful and fun nature study really should be. The gentle guidance given to Henry to notice things more closely — without actually pushing him hard in any particular direction — was a fine example of how adults can help cultivate love and appreciation for nature while training our children to observe, think and ask good questions.
I thought the way the nature study journal was used was fantastic. I think it is very easy as parents to get caught up in details and the process. And while sometimes details and precision are a good thing, there are other times when merely making a brief record of the joy they felt in the moment will have more impact on our kids in the long run.
I am looking forward to listening to more episodes and exploring your blog in detail.
