Emily, that is the best point I've heard made about why one should not cater to a child's "learning style." Our discussion group has had a few conversations about how a poor education can enable debilitated young adults with consequences in the workplace, for both employer and employee.

Once again, thank you for another helpful episode! In true CM fashion, you ladies always leave me wanting more! 🙂 I, too, appreciated your last comments on "learning styles" – this topic has been at the forefront of my mind lately and applicable to myself as I'm learning a foreign language for the first time on the mission field at a much later age in life(!), and there has been much time and energy spent on assessing my "learning style." Truth of the matter is, I believe most of us are a mix anyway! Even still, it took a lot of pressure off to hear you mention this in terms of educating our children, and I don't need to cater to my kids' learning styles (which I feel is a work in progress in determining since they are still young). Thank you for sharing more CM wisdom in this podcast! Your thoughts on books and narration are always so helpful to this new-to-CM mom.

The learning styles certainly appeal to our specialization mindset, but you are wise to consider that we are all a mix, and even in varying subjects, vary in our own orientation. It is just not simple to put a creation of God into a slot. None of us can shine in every subject, and most of us end up benefitting from things later in life we had no natural affinity to when covering it in school. We are thankful the podcasts are supporting your efforts and pray they continue to provide encouragement. This method is a delectable way to educate and to learn.

Thank you for understanding Emily's point. Sometimes we worry about offending others, and while many educators have some valuable truths, Mason's principles seem to account for the reasons and give the principles that get to the true heart of the matter and will serve our children best in future, not to mention now.
